In an exciting announcement, Warner Bros. Discovery revealed that Harry Potter and his beloved friends will be returning to screens in a brand-new TV series.
The show will be exclusively available on a new streaming service called Max. What sets this series apart is that each season will be based on one of the iconic books from J.K. Rowling’s beloved decade-long Harry Potter series, and the cast will feature entirely new actors, bringing a fresh perspective to the magical world.
Casey Bloys, the esteemed chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, expressed his delight in offering audiences a new way to experience Hogwarts.
In a press release on Wednesday, Bloys stated, “We are thrilled to give fans the opportunity to rediscover the magic of Hogwarts in a whole new way.” He further explained that the TV series will delve deep into the captivating stories of each book that has been cherished by fans for years, promising an immersive and captivating viewing experience.
The upcoming TV series on Max has assured fans that it will be a “faithful adaptation” of the original books, with author J.K. Rowling herself serving as an executive producer.
Rowling expressed her enthusiasm in a press release, stating, “Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series.”
The highly popular book series, consisting of seven books, commenced with “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” in 1997 in the United Kingdom, with the final installment published in 2007. All of the books were bestsellers, captivating readers worldwide.
The beloved book series was also brought to life through eight successful films, with the first installment hitting theaters in 2001 and the final film released in 2011. The movie adaptations collectively earned a staggering $7.7 billion at the global box office.
