In case you’ve read or seen any evaluations of the present BMW M3 Competition xDrive, it’s evident that it surpasses its predecessor with substantial improvements in performance, handling, and overall driving experience.
This latest version of the car has indeed raised the bar, delivering an impressive driving performance that any car enthusiast will appreciate. Besides, the car is incredibly fast.
According to BMW’s specification sheet, the 2023 M3 Competition xDrive is equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, which generates 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft (649 Nm) of torque at 2,750 rpm.
While these figures are commendable, it’s almost expected from a high-performance sedan nowadays. However, what caught us by surprise is how quickly the car accelerated during testing by Car and Driver.
In fact, thanks to the powerful xDrive system and launch control function, Car and Driver was able to clock the car’s acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in a mere 2.8 seconds.

Although the magazine claims that this time doesn’t include a 1-foot rollout of 0.2 seconds, which means that the actual time is around 3.0 seconds, it’s still an impressive feat. Additionally, the M3 Competition xDrive reached 100 mph (161 km/h) in only 7.0 seconds, covered the quarter-mile in 11.0 seconds at 124 mph (200 km/h), and hit 130 mph (209 km/h) in 12.3 seconds.
Finally, the car achieved a top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h) in 18.2 seconds, all of which exclude the 1-foot rollout.
Overall, the BMW M3 Competition xDrive’s exceptional performance, handling, and acceleration make it a highly desirable car that delivers on its promises.
Sprint Test
Car and Driver also conducted a sprint test on the M3, this time measuring the car’s acceleration from 5 to 60 mph. The fastest time recorded was an impressive 4.2 seconds, which highlights the potency of the car’s launch control system.
It’s important to note that the specific model tested by Car and Driver was the 50 Jahre Edition, which was introduced last year.
This special edition is limited to only 500 units for customers in the United States and Canada. It is available in five unique colors, namely Cinnabar Red, Techno Violet, Deep Interlagos Blue, Fire Orange III, and Limerock Grey.
Additionally, the car comes standard with M Sport seats, unique lettering and badges, and a plaque on the center console that displays the car’s production number.
Overall, the M3 Competition xDrive 50 Jahre Edition is an exclusive and sought-after model that offers exceptional performance, style, and features.
